  • The Lightning Class presented a certificate of appreciation to John Parker on Friday, September 9th, 2011 during the Ocean City Yacht Club Sailing awards banquet. John has been sailing in the Lightning class for the over 40 years beginning with Fleet #99 and then on to Fleet #430 in 1971 with Past Commodore Dr. George P. Glenn, Dr. Gordon Buzby. Dr. Robinson and Past Commodore William Lindsay. He has also been a strong supporter of our Junior Sailing program giving lessons on his boat as well as to interested adults on Tuesday evenings. During the lean years when our Lightning  membership dwindled at OCYC,  John would pay the Lightning Fleet #430 dues out of his own pocket to keep our fleet charter active. He along with his cousin Gidge Glenn have been the heart and the soul of the Lightning class at Ocean City Yacht Club. For this reason we acknowledge his efforts for promoting sailing and the ILCA in both South Jersey and the Central Atlantic District.
