The 2013 Lightning World Championship will be held in Castiglione del lago, Italy, June 7-14, 2013. Those skippers who participated and/or registered for the 2012 North American Championship may be eligible to attend. As of now those that finished in the top 18 (of US competitors) at the NA's have qualified and have been given an invitation. These skippers must report their intention by October 19th. As slots become available we will continue to move down through the list with invitations. We anticipate that several will not accept, as well as we believe that North America will receive additional slots.
In order to facilitate the process we are asking everyone if they were invited would they attend.
Here is some information that might be helpful in making your decision:
The host Club will be Club Velico Castiglionese (CVC) and the regatta will take place June 7-14, 2013. The European andInternational Masters Championships will be run at the same time from June 3-7, 2013.
If you do plan to attend, the ILCA will require a non-refundable $1000.00 deposit by November 19th. Additional deposits, to cover shipping and entry fee will also be required at later dates (schedule below) to keep your place. These additional deposits will be refundable, if you decide later not to go, to the extent your withdrawal does not financially impact others. (For example, a replacement could not be found and a container is shipped with only three boats.) If you are not shipping a boat through the ILCAprogram some additional deposits will be required to keep your place (see below), they will be less than those shipping with ILCAand they will be refundable if you go or if you do not to the extent your withdrawal does not financially impact others.
If you tell us you are not participating or do not make a deposit on time you will still be eligible to go, but you will be put at the back of the line.
Boats will be shipped by mid April and will return sometime in mid to late July. You should anticipate boats being back in the USA for the 2013 North Americans in CT.
You should anticipate that shipping will cost roughly $3,000 and charter boats will be limited at best. ILCA has asked the Organizing Committee if there are charter boats available that South Americas and other foreign Countries be given priority.

Deadline and Deposit Schedule:
October 19th- Response due from all US participants in the top 18 from the North Americans. As slots become available, additional invitations will be sent.
November 19th -- $1000 deposit due into the ILCA.
December 15th--$1000 additional due for those shipping with ILCA
February 15th --$1000 additional due for those shipping with ILCA
April 1-approximately $500 due for Regatta Entry Fee (Exact amount TBD)
