The VLSC annual June regatta was down a few Lightnings from our normal fleet due to some injuries and other commitments.  We experienced a late Spring storm – unusual for this area so late in the season—after the first race had been postponed for nearly 2 hours waiting for the wind to come up. Cool, cloudy, rainy weather with unstable winds greeted sailors Saturday afternoon when the winds went from 4 knots to 18 knots briefly and then finally to zero.  The RC was able to get in two quick races before the wind went kaput.

Sunday’s forecast was a bit better, and it turned into a near perfect sailing day with predictable winds 8-13 knots, on and off sunshine, and temps in the high sixties.  4 races as quick as you please followed.
Bob Bush, Sterling Bush and Abby Boudouris were not to be denied with 6 first place finishes.  Top starts on the short starting line, finding the first shift and staying in the breeze were a winning combination.  Chris Duncombe and team had 5 seconds and a third for second place, and last year’s winner Philip Parshley and crew were third.

Come sail with us on Tuesday evenings in the Portland OR/Vancouver WA area – where the thermal wind sticks around until midnight!

Respectfully submitted,
Bob Bush, Commodore
