Dear District Commodores,

I hope that you, your families, and your fleets are healthy and staying safe.

I’m Philip Lange (Lightning #15546) and I'm the VP District Coordinator for the Class. My job is to help you get people active in your fleets and local regattas.  I will be sending you news and information from time to time about what the Class is doing, and I’d love to share what your fleets are doing, now and in the future, to build the Lightning Class family.

At this time:

1.The Winter Meeting of the Governing Board (that includes you as a District Commodore) will be April 18th at 10:00 am Eastern Time. This will be a virtual meeting via the Zoom Web Platform. Class Secretary, Laura Jeffers has sent the meeting registration invite out. If you did not receive it please let Laura or myself know.

2. The Class is offering each District Commodore the opportunity to hold fleet or district meetings through the Class' Pro Zoom account. There is no time limit and you can have up to 100 people on the meeting at one time.

3. If you have any regatta postponements or cancellations it is important to contact Laura, office@lightningclass.org, so she can update/post on the Class calendar. She can also send out an email notification to all District Members (active and expired).

4. As we don’t know when we will be able to travel to major regattas again, we can think about how to make this a positive time to strengthen our local fleets and districts. When the Stay at Home rules are lifted, weekend regattas or evening fleet racing during the summer months may be just the ticket to get people on the line and have some fun.

I hope you are doing as well as you can and are being smart and staying healthy. I am sure we all are missing the fun and excitement of sailing and spending time with other sailors.

If there are concerns and questions, please reach out to me at 585-727-4450, or Philip.lange@gmail.com.

Stay safe,
Stay healthy,

Philip Lange
