From Class President Bill Bogardus:
Savannah has always been possibly the most interesting and hospitable place to have a Lightning regatta. Racing there is like stepping back in time. I remember arriving when I was 18 and thinking, where is the racecourse? “Son, you’re lookin’ at it.” The Club was amazingly welcoming, the oysters were delicious and the racing was crazy. A starting line that spanned the entire Wilmington River, tacking to avoid the marsh, going to a gybe mark up the Skidaway, and everything in between. It is such a fun and different place to sail. Through it all Larry McDonald would always seem to figure it out, and someone from the McIntosh family would answer my social questions. Good times.
There is still time for you to sign up for this year’s Deep South Regatta on March 23-25. Savannah Yacht Club has a rules seminar set up for Thursday night after we arrive, and an Oyster Roast after Friday’s racing. 21 boats have already signed up. Come join us in Savannah. |
