As of today, 16 boats have already registered for the July 27-28 weekend event with many more expected to come. Note that fees for new and incomplete entries after July 8th will increase by $75.00, this includes any unpaid entries. Don’t delay – register today!

Meeting Announcements - SAVE THE DATES!
Notice of Meetings

Annual Meeting of Members will be held Thursday, August 29, 2024 at 12:00 PM Eastern Time via a Virtual ZOOM Meeting. The meeting invitation link will be emailed out to members prior to the meeting. 

At this time the only item that will be presented for vote will be the 2024-2025 Proposed Slate of Officers. 

If you would like to be added to the agenda or if you have something to share during either meeting, please send a request or short written report to Class Secretary Jeffers  office@lightningclass.org or contact Class President David Starck at president@lightningclass.org by Monday, August 19th. 

Please note that Personal and Fleet Dues must be current in order to vote.

The Governing Board Meeting will be held Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Noon, Eastern via a Virtual Meeting using the ZOOM Platform.  District Commodores, Vice Presidents and the Executive committee will be emailed the invitation link prior to the meeting.

The ILCA is currently seeking bids to host the 2025 International Lightning Class Association North American Championships

Deadline for bids: August 1, 2024. Winning bid will be announced during the 2024 ILCA North American Championships at the Buffalo Canoe Club, August 8-11, 2024

LAST CALL for Volunteers! 

The Lightning Class is asking for volunteers who may have the time to help with a variety of projects to strengthen the Class and build our sailing community.  This is a great opportunity to give to the Class in ways uniquely suited to your individual strengths/interests.


For now, we just want to know who might be interested in joining the Lightning LOYALS (Legions of Young-at-heart Avid Lightning Sailors).  Please take a few minutes to complete the survey that was emailed to all members on June 12th.

- Racing in 8+ states in the US plus action in Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador & Finland
- 100+ U32 sailors!
 
If you didn't sail in June - Get in on the action! This past weekend there were at least 5 REGATTAS to closed out June. There are many more planned for July! Find a regatta near you and get out and SAIL! Event Calendar

This multi-fleet regatta will be sailing on English Bay of the Fraser River near the city of Vancouver, BC, Canada. Enjoy their Thursday night sailing to get warmed up for the event.

Loon Lake is 30 minutes east of Thunder Bay and each year hosts a really enjoyable regatta. It's inland lake sailing at it's finest both Saturday and Sunday with a welcoming BBQ at the Walsh's Saturday evening. Please come join us for the weekend. The drive is quite pretty and we'd be glad to billet those who join us.

Short course racing on the Chesapeake Bay

Amethyst Harbour, 20 miles east of Thunder Bay, on Lake Superior, is a pretty nice introduction to Lake Superior sailing. Thunder Bay, Lake Superior, is a “small” 20 mile wide bay on 350 mile long Lake Superior. What a setting for a sailing weekend. The races are around local islands with Saturday's two races around closer islands and Sunday's single race around Caribou Island.  We'd be glad to billet those from out of town and we'd love to have you join us.

U32 is a new Lightning class initiative focused on strengthening the younger generation in the class by creating fun, competitive events to boost camaraderie and connections among young sailors after aging out of junior events. The goal is to provide opportunities to support current members and provide potential new members experiences to participate in the class.
