Fleet 429 “Fleetsgiving"

As Lightning sailing is winding down in North America just weeks before Thanksgiving, Greg Fisher, Sailing Inc. Evolution Sails, and the Greater Charleston Fleet 429, had what most people call a Friendsgiving Party. But we may have coined a new term, “Fleetsgiving”. With a crowd of lifelong Lightning members, current and past Boat Grant recipients, and many in between, Fleet 429 also shared the evening with the Charleston Y-Flyer Fleet. The true essence of Thanksgiving. Sharing plenty of activity of both Fleets throughout the year. And sharing the obvious, our hard chines.

Already an event worth repeating, we used the opportunity to recognize the passion, the support of a true gentleman of the Class, Lenny Krawcheck. Speaking for the Fleet, and the Class, Greg presented Lenny with a plaque of appreciation for his lifelong advocacy of the sport of yacht racing in Charleston. Sailing Lightnings since 1976, along with Y-Flyers intermittently throughout the years.

As Co-Chair of the Boat Grant Program, Ryan Davidson presented George Scarborough with his own appreciation plaque for George’s donation of boat 15600, CACIQUE, to the Boat Grant. George also purchased, transported, and donated boat 13686 to the Carolina Yacht Club-SC Jr Sailing Program. A boat that has been successful in the past two Wild Oyster Regattas.

Prepping for the holidays, Charleston sailors enjoyed the evening with plenty of friends, and maybe with some new Lightning sailors. We had invited a few who are interested in getting involved with the Class. We were all able to witness a piece of Southeastern Lightning history by getting to know a bit more about Lenny and George.
