2013 Lightning Boat Grant Skipper – Tyler Braun

Tyler Braun

Tyler Braun is from Brunswick, Maine. He graduated from Penn State in 2010 and is currently working as an engineering consultant for the hydropower industry in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

While at college, Tyler served as Commodore of the Penn State Sailing Team, skippering FJs and 420s (and the occasional Colgate 26). He has spent the last two seasons at Susquehanna Yacht Club, jumping from Lightning to Lightning before settling into a steady crew position with Carol Park. He started racing keelboats at Havre de Grace Yacht Club last season.

Tyler and his crew are incredibly excited and grateful for the coming season with the Lightning class.

Jarrett Scherrer

Jarrett Scherrer is a senior supply chain and information systems major at Penn State University. He has lusted after sailboats from a very young age, due to an annual family vacation to Mount Desert Island in Maine.

After several trips to Wooden Boat School in Brooklin, Maine, he finally convinced his father to pursue the restoration of a Jet-14 sailboat (hull #756). Since Bernoulli, Jarrett has purchased, and sold, a Seafarer 23. He currently owns a Victoria 18.

Jarrett was the Commodore of the Penn State Sailing Team in 2010 and 2011 and has also raced Thistles with Nockamixon Sailing Club in southeastern Pennsylvania.

Dustin Stauffer

Dustin Stauffer is from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He learned to sail on a tall ship in the Mediterranean, where he crewed for a year and earned his British Coastal Skipper certification.

Dustin has been crewing Lightnings at the Susquehanna Yacht Club for the past two seasons with Star Mikell. He also sails a Hobie 33 and Express 27 in Havre de Grace, Maryland.

He is an avid volunteer with Youth With A Mission and The USCG Auxiliary.
