We've got some great stuff planned this year.
A new event in the Charlotte, North Caroina, area is looking to have a classic fleet this year. April 23–24 at the Lake Norman Yacht Club. The organizers would love a woody / classic fleet to participate in addition to the modern boat fleet, and a few have already committed. Here is the website link. I hear Lake Norman is a great place, and that time of year extra nice. I chatted with the regatta organizer, Bill Wiggins, while in St. Pete last week. And of course our own "classic" - Corky Gray can tell you more.
June 25/26
Our annual Classic Lightning Get Together. Hammondsport New York, Keuka Yacht Club. I believe this will be our 14th consecutive year of getting together in Upstate NY for racing, day sailing, fiddling, and ogling over each others boats. This will be our third year in Hammondsport. Anyone who was there last year will tell you what a good time was had by everyone, and what a terrific place this is to have such an event. As in past years we will have awards for the racing, restoration, and a few other things. We don't have a flyer yet for this event, but will be getting more information out shortly. Put it on your calendar, and get to work getting your boat ready!
Our classic events are great fun. A true celebration of the Lightning sailboat, its beauty, its history, and the ever growing circle of friends we have found through our boats.
Let me know if you are trying to work any or all of these into your 2016 plans. Write me, Bob Astrove, at

Also, the Lightning Class Association is working hard to identify the current owners and locations of all the old boats. Please contact the Class Office with your name, boat number and contact information. Even if you are not interested in membership in the Class, we still want to update the registry of boats.
