Eight Bells... Remembering those who have passed

Brian Nickels

I regretfully share on behalf of all of my family the passing of my dad, Brian Nickels, late last evening September 25th at the age of 56. He had battled cancer for roughly two years. While George and David likely had a more prominent connection to the ILCA and Michigan Lightning District as former owners of Nickels Boat Works, Brian was a steady presence as well at the boat shop and throughout the community. He was an avid Lightning sailor only stopping to sail this season when he was no longer physically able. His sailing knowledge and more critically fiberglass repair talent were unmatched throughout the Michigan Lightning District. If he didn't work on your boat, there's a good chance he has worked on another boat at your club or someone else you know. He was a friend to many and a resource to everyone. He will be incredibly missed by family, those at Lake Fenton Sailing Club, the district, and the class.
