Eight Bells... Remembering those who have passed

Rod was a special member of CT/RI District, Cedar Point - Fleet 126. He almost never missed a race in the summer series for at least the past 15 years in his boat, Second Chance. Rod was a true gentleman sailor, both on and off the water. He was always one of the first fleet members to volunteer at a regatta or help maintain the fleet boat. Most of all, he was a wonderful friend to the fleet, and to the members of Cedar Point Yacht Club. He will be dearly missed.

Andrew Ratcliffe Obituary:

Andrew “Rod” Ratcliffe, 78, died unexpectedly at his home in Southport on Tuesday, November 21, 2023.

He grew up in Evanston, IL and attended the University of Wisconsin, where he received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration.

A Chartered Financial Analyst and Vice President at Morgan Stanley, Rod was head of Fixed Income and Credit Research. Later, he transitioned into High-Yield Corporate Bond Sales, where he sold high-yield securities to various financial institutions. Among other companies, Rod was also employed by US Trust in High-Yield Research and by Investor’s Diversified Services in Minneapolis, MN.

Rod will always be remembered as a loving, kind, and generous husband and father, who always put his family first. For those who knew him as a sailor, he will be remembered racing his Lightning sailboat in the summer on Long Island Sound.

Rod is survived by his wife, Diane Ratcliffe and his two daughters, Jamie and Katie Ratcliffe, a sister, Jean Jacobus and a brother, Bruce Ratcliffe.  A memorial service will be held at St.Paul’s Episcopal Church, 661 Old Post Road, Fairfield, CT on Thursday, December 7 at 2 pm. There will be a reception following the service in the Parish Hall. The family asks that flowers be sent to the church, or instead of flowers, a donation be made in Rod’s name to the American Heart Association. For information please visit www.SpearFuneralHome.com
