Lightning WJMs and NAs competitors:

Here are a few final reminders and information to help make your visit to the Buffalo Canoe Club go smoothly . . we can’t wait to welcome you to our club!!!

What to do, when to do it and how:

NOW!Pay your registration fee. A $75 late fee kicks in after July 20. No excuses . . . pay now!

Review your registration information—make sure your crew and their emails are entered. Have the waiver sent to them. Make sure you and your crew are Lightning Class members. Check your sail number on YachtScoring. This will all make registration go smoothly and quickly.

Waivers: Get these done. If you are a Junior Team, bring a signed copy of the Competitor’s Agreement, Liability Waiver and Medical Release with you and HAVE IT SIGNED BY YOUR LEGAL GUARDIAN!!! Find these on YachtScoring.

Purchase extra dinner tickets for Aug 10: 3 dinners are included with your registration. If you have any extra guests, you must purchase these by July 29 due to a strict catering deadline. Do this on YachtScoring: login to the Owner’s Corner and go to “Additional Purchases”. Thank you for understanding. Extra tickets for other social events may be purchased onsite.

Childcare/DayCamp: If you are interested in enrolling a child in the BCC DayCamp or sailing courses, space is limited so call NOW! 905.894.2750. Ask for Anna. These programs run Mon-Fri 9am-4pm. If you need childcare coverage on the weekends and/or if racing goes later than 4, contact Debbie ASAP dkprobst@gmail.com.

Help support our event and purchase raffle tickets for a North Sails paddle board.

When you arrive:

We have one (1) hoist which will be used for measurement and unstacking double deck rigs ONLY! No boat washing on the hoist, so wash and polish your boat before you depart home. If you are coming with a double deck rig, please let us know (dkprobst@gmail.com) and we will schedule a time to unstack your rig.

All boats must be launched by Saturday 8/3 5:30pm for the WJMs and Wednesday 8/7 5pm for the NAs. It takes a minimum of 5 minutes to launch each boat so do not wait until the last minute to launch. Once you launch, your boat needs to stay in the water . . so if you are going to a sail, plan on staying in the water. A mooring will be provided for each boat . . there will be more information posted on YachtScoring regarding what to expect from the mooring process. Unless you want to use your Class-required safety/tow line, bring a sturdy 15-20 foot line to attach to the mooring chain. If you’d like to bring a fun float to better identify your mooring, go for it!!

Social Events/On Shore:

We have some great social events planned, both at the BCC and elsewhere.

Saturday 8/3 WJMs Competitors Meeting and Welcoming Party: Light hors d’oeuvres will be served with a cash bar. If you’d like to stay for dinner, please make a reservation by calling the front desk prior to your arrival. 905-894-2750

Sunday 8/4 Masters and Women are invited to a cocktail party with light hors d’oeuvres at the MacDonald’s home. Some parking is available there, or park at the club and enjoy a 12 minute walk down the beach! Afterwards enjoy one of the many wonderful restaurants in the area or make a reservation at the BCC during registration.

While the adults are at the MacDonalds on Sunday, we are hoping to entertain the Juniors at the BCC . . stay tuned! This will be open to all WJM sailors under the age of 21 . . including those sailing in the Masters and Women’s fleets.

Monday/Wed/Fri 9:30am Yoga in the Outer Boat house. . buy a ticket at the front desk, bring your mat and relax!

Monday 8/5 all Juniors are invited to the Swanson/Starck household for dinner and beach games. This includes any juniors sailing on Women’s or Master’s teams.

Monday 8/5 Optional dinner for Masters and Women’s teams at Matt and Laura Bryant’s cottage 15 minutes West of the BCC. $15 pp, BYOB, open to the first 40 people to sign up at registration.

Tuesday 8/6. Party, Party, Party!!! WJMs Awards Dinner at the BCC followed by a great band! We hope all WJM and NAs participants will celebrate the award winners, then stay and dance the night away. If you are coming in for the NAs, come early to celebrate the WJM awards winners and kick off your regatta on the dance floor!!! Dinner tickets are included for WJM participants—others can buy tickets at the front desk (call ahead so we know how many to expect 905-894-2750). Or come after dinner to watch the awards and enjoy the band!

Wednesday 8/7. NAs Competitors Meeting and Welcoming Party: Light hors d’oeuvres will be served with a cash bar . . and free beer while it lasts! After the party we encourage you to visit one of the many wonderful restaurants in the area . . our dining room will be limited to members only in order to give our staff a much needed break!

Thursday 8/8. Dinner at the BCC included for competitors. Extra tickets available for purchase during registration.

Friday 8/9. Open night . . cook at home, visit Niagara Falls or visit a local restaurant.

Saturday 8/10: Dinner at the Buffalo Yacht Club, Pt. Abino Station, just 1 mile West of the BCC. This will be a casual, indoor/outdoor event. BYOB. Extra tickets are available, but they must be purchased by July 29 (see above). The BCC is holding its annual Commodore’s Ball this evening so access to our main clubhouse will not be permitted after 3pm. Come over to the BYC for a little different scenery!

FYI:

Alcohol rules: Please follow the posted signs—no outside alcohol is permitted on the grounds of the BCC. No alcohol allowed in the dry sail lot . . keep it on the East Lawn.

Canada has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to drinking and driving. Please designate a non-drinking driver!

You can purchase wine and liquor at the LCBO in Ridgeway on Ridgeway road. Beer can be purchased at the Beer Store in Ridgeway although it is quite pricey . . . we suggest you bring your favorite beer with you if that is your preference. (Be aware of import limits)

The BCC is cashless . . but we take Debit, Visa and Mastercard.

No dogs are permitted on the BCC grounds.

Lunch orders may be placed during registration, if desired.

Our Snack Bar is open most days 8am-8pm. Come early for a hearty breakfast, or enjoy a snack or ice cream after racing. The grill usually closes at 6pm, but you can treat your team to the legendary loganberry milkshakes until 8pm!!

We have water bottle filling stations . . please bring your own refillable water bottle. In fact, bring an extra—we are really trying to minimize plastic!! Thanks to Evolution Sails/Sailing Inc., we’ll have a more sustainable, reusable cup for your beer!

The Sailing Instructions will be online on YachtScoring soon. If you want a printed copy, print them out before you arrive.

Entertainment: The BCC has many evenings with live music. Hanging out in the Pirate’s Den (our bar overlooking the water) with a bunch of Lightning sailors will be quite entertaining also!

Spectator Boats/Support Boats: If you have anyone coming with you who may be interested in helping on a support/safety boat, or an interest in a spectating opportunity, please let Debbie know and we’ll see what we can work out! DKProbst@gmail.com

Regatta Merchandise: Many of you purchased items through our online store. These will be ready and waiting for you when you arrive at registration. For those of you who missed this, there will be a small number of items available for purchase on site and we will open the store again . . a delivery charge will be added for each address for shipping. Using this method allows us to offer more items at a lower price while reducing our exposure to excess inventory. We hope you like what we offered!

The BCC also has a good inventory of BCC items for sale at the front desk.

What Else? Check out the informational documents on YachtScoring—you’ll find information on crossing the border, area activities, etc.

If you still have questions, please just ask!!!
